A sharp climb surrounded by open road and gentle gradients — the field is open to climbers, sprinters and breakaway artists alike.
Winters sits where the Sacramento Valley runs out and the coast range starts, and the circuit uses both. It has been the same 24-mile loop since 2009: south on Winters Road, west on Allendale, south on Timm, west over Cantelow, north on Pleasants Valley and east on Putah Creek Road.
Fields leave downtown Winters on a half-mile neutral promenade onto the loop. There is a 1,000-foot gravel stretch ahead of the final pitches of Cantelow, and the descent off the far side is steep and twisting. The stretch to the finish is ten miles of fast false-flat descent, giving the chase a real opportunity to catch the climbers who summited first.
Profile and gradients measured from race GPS · trace reads 24.9 mi per lap. Official distances above are the promoter's.

The Winters Road Race is run in honor of Colden Kimber — Dolce Vita teammate, mechanic, mentor and coach, who died protecting others. His generosity radiated through the San Francisco cycling community, and we ride to follow the example he set.
